Tsogo Sun Slots Factor R1.2 million winner announced

Tsogo Sun’s nationwide Slots Factor tournament culminated this evening in a glittering finale hosted at Montecasino in Johannesburg. After eight weeks of thrilling qualifying and semi-final rounds played out at each of Tsogo Sun’s 14 casinos, 99 finalists from across the country were flown to Johannesburg to participate in the final, where Anita Narain, representing Gold Reef City Casino, walked away with the first prize of R1.2 million in cash – a prize never before offered in a slots tournament.

Steve Hight, Director of Gaming at Tsogo Sun, says the response to the tournament countrywide was phenomenal. “Being our first-ever national slots competition, we were delighted with the response to The Slots Factor. Thousands of slots enthusiasts arrived at our casinos to buy-in for a chance at turning their R100 into R1 million – an amount which was first increased to R1.1 million with extra “buy-in” and then just a few days ago increased to R1.2 million, taking the already high stakes to a record level.” This takes the total amount given away over the course of the tournament to R2 226 000 of which R1 736 000 was shared between the top ten finalists this evening. The balance was shared amongst the top finishers across each casino over the course of the tournament’s qualifying and semi-final rounds.

Montecasino was humming with pulse-racing excitement and tension as the finalists fought for the top spot. "The final consisted of 10 heats, during which the 99 finalists were whittled down to the top 10 scorers, but there could be only one ultimate winner, and we’d like to congratulate Anita for out-playing the competition and coming out on top.”

Winners were announced at a private function at La Toscana at Montecasino following the final heat.

The Slots Factor qualifying rounds were run at all 14 of Tsogo Sun’s casinos, including Silverstar Casino (Johannesburg); Garden Route Casino (Mossel Bay); Goldfields Casino (Welkom); Blackrock Casino (Newcastle); Emnotweni Casino (Nelspruit); The Ridge Casino (Witbank); Mykonos Casino (Langebaan); Suncoast Casino (Durban); Hemingways Casino (East London); The Caledon Casino (Caledon); Golden Horse Casino (Pietermaritzburg); Gold Reef City Casino (Johannesburg), Queens Casino (Queenstown) and Montecasino (Fourways).

The finalists from each Tsogo Sun casino and their partners were flown to Johannesburg where they were accommodated at the Southern Sun Montecasino hotel for the weekend.

Says Glenn Joseph, General Manager of Montecasino, “We are honoured to have been selected to host the final of the Slots Factor tournament. With 99 slots players from all over the country taking to the machines – the largest number of finalists in any slots tournament ever hosted at Montecasino – there was an electrifying buzz in the casino, unlike any before. Gaming is all about entertainment and that is certainly what the players and spectators experienced here tonight.”

Following the success of the Slots Factor tournament, Tsogo Sun will be hosting another nationwide tournament in 2014. Taking place from 13 January to 15 March 2014 at Gold Reef City Casino, with the national grand final taking place on 29 March 2014, the inaugural Tsogo Sun Roulette Masters tournament will once again give gamers the opportunity to walk away with R1 million in cash guaranteed to the ultimate winner.
