October is Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month First Aid Counts is launching an initiative in October 2012, namely, SCA Awareness Month. This critical initiative will become an annual initiative to raise awareness for SCA and help the public become more familiar with what it is, how it affects people, and what can be done to help save lives.

Buckle up the kids, it may save their lives
Emer-G-Med paramedics witness numerous accidents where children are seriously injured or killed as a result of not being safely strapped in a child seat or seatbelts. This past weekend a 25 month old boy was ejected from a vehicle after it was involved in a rollover. Sadly the boy succumbed to his injures on impact and there was nothing paramedics could do to save him.

L.P Gas Safety Associates as well as ER24 have determined the need to educate home owners of the safety aspects and precautions that need to be undertaken when dealing with gas bottles and cylinders being used in the home.

Tips:
1. Make sure that you regularly test your alarm system (best practice is to test your alarm at least once a month)
2. Before testing the alarm, inform your security company
3. If you have a false alarm, inform the security

Tips:
1. Make sure that you get a copy of your domestic workers ID or at least take a photo of him or her.
2. First line security of your property is your responsibility. If your fence has been turned off for any reason, do a visual inspection of the fence once it has been turned back on.

Here's a reminder of the basic rules to stick with to keep you safe on the road.

 DON'T WEAR HEADSETS. Use your ears to be aware of your surroundings. Using headphones, you lose the use of an important sense: your hearing.

During very wet weather motorists are urged to keep safe by following these simple safety tips:

• Constantly be on the look out for suspicious looking people and be wary of people standing at traffic lights and intersections.
• Lock all your doors and close the windows.

• Obey the rules of the road and carry you drivers license with you.
• Plan the route to your holiday destination and give yourself enough time to reach the destination
