Family shooting in Cosmo City

A Police officer is fighting for his life in the Netcare Millpark hospital while his wife died in a shooting at their residence in the Cosmo City settlement in the Randburg area this evening at around 8pm. Exact details and what led to the shooting is speculative and will remain a subject for police comment.

It is believed that a police officer, his wife, her sister and their 1 year old child were at home when the tragic event unfolded. The wife was fatally wounded and the police officer and his sister in law were critically wounded. The child fortunately unharmed was handed over to the police chaplain services for care.

Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the shooting and fervently started to stabilise the officer. After placing him on a ventilator and skilfully immobilising him on a trauma board, he was loaded onboard the Netcare 1 medical helicopter and flown to the Netcare Millpark hospital for specialised treatment.

A 16 week pregnant female believed to be the sister of the female that died in the shooting at Cosmo City was rushed to the Netcare Olivedale hospital by private transport this evening.

The pregnant lady had sustained 9 gunshot wounds and was in a critical condition. Doctors and nurses worked tirelessly to stabilise the critically wounded patient.

The Netcare 1 medical helicopter was dispatched to the hospital with a trauma team on board. After the patient was stabilised they airlifted her to the Baragwanath hospital for specialised treatment.
