Owner and manager of Corner House Pub killed in shooting

The restaurant owner (56) and manager (21) were shot dead in the early evening on Wednesday April 15 at the Corner House Pub in Olivedale, Fourways.
Superintendant Eugene Opperman, police spokesperson, said that around 5.54pm three men were sitting around a table inside the Corner House Pub having beers. They allegedly drew firearms, suspected to be 9 Millimetres, and fired several shots at the owner Richard Smyth and manager Christopher Patton. They then got into a red Toyota and drove away from the scene.
“Paramedics were called to the scene of an alleged armed robbery and found people hysterical in the pub. The 21 year old manager was found lying on the floor. He was already dead when paramedics arrived on the scene. It appears that he was shot multiple times in the upper body,” said Werner Vermaak, spokesperson for ER24.
"Staff at the establishment said that the manager had only been working there for three days," said Nick Dollman of Netcare 911.
A few meters away from the young manager, paramedics found the owner with multiple wounds to his upper body. Paramedics from ER24, Life Fourways and Netcare 911 tried everything in their power to gain any signs of life in the man. After almost an hour of resuscitation the man was declared dead on the scene.
There has been conflict between the owners of the pub and some others for about a year, police will investigate the lead. There were witnesses at the seen who may be able to give a description of the three men.
A case of murder has been opened and police are investigating further.
Family and friends were in great shock, and were seen trying to comfort each other after the traumatic news.
